Listen to the Word
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)

We often use words to tear others down. We also speak for the purpose of building ourselves up, hoping that our words will make us appear to be intelligent or funny or important or charming. Our Scripture calls us instead to use words to build others up according to their needs.

Your words can make a positive difference in the lives of the people around you today. They can bring hope to someone who is hurting. They can speak a compliment to someone who hasn’t heard one in weeks. They can express appreciation to someone who thought nobody noticed. They can reveal your love and God’s love to someone who was convinced that nobody cared. Who will you build up today?

Live the Word
Ask God to help you speak encouraging words every time you open your mouth today. Ask him to give you opportunities to build others up according to their needs.
