Listen to the Word
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith... (Hebrews 12:1-2)

One of the keys to running the race of life with perseverance is to remember that you are not alone. Hebrews describes a great cosmic coliseum. You are on the track, and the stands are packed with people screaming their lungs out to cheer you on. The previous chapter of Hebrews identifies the people in the stands: the faith heroes of the Old Testament. Your cheering section includes folks like Abraham and Moses and Rahab and David. All these heroes were regular, flawed people like you, and they demonstrate by their example that it is possible to finish the race. They are in the stands of heaven encouraging you to keep on.

Live the Word
Think of someone you know who completed the race of life well. Take a moment to thank God for their good example.
