Listen to the Word
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
You might assume that there are too many important items on your agenda for you to take time to be still. If you feel that way, I would challenge you with a simple question: are the items on your to-do list more important than those on Jesus’ to-do list? Jesus was busy doing the most important work that has ever been done, yet the Gospels make it clear that he regularly took time to be still. There are multiple reports that he withdrew from the crowd to go to a mountain alone to pray. There were countless times that he reclined for a meal. He slept on a boat, and he told his disciples to get away with him for some time off. Just a thought - if the perfect Son of God benefited from regular times of stillness, maybe that practice would do you some good!
Live the Word
Confess to God the self-importance that is behind much of your hurry. Ask him to help you trust him enough to let him take care of running the universe.
