Listen to the Word

"And Mary said, 'My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.'" (Luke 1:46-47)

Mary's song in Luke 1 is a song of joy. As she pondered the privilege of giving birth to the Son of God, she could not contain her delight.

The coming of Christ gives us reason to rejoice, too. It shows that the distance between earth and heaven was not enough to keep God away from us. Not even the gaping chasm between our sinfulness and his holiness was too much of a hindrance for him. He came to us! Through the body of a frightened but joyful teenage girl, the Creator came to his fallen creatures to set us free.
