Listen to the Word

“Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep…”  (Psalm 36:5-6)

Our Scripture praises God for his uncontainable love. The Hebrew word translated “love” is the word hesed. It is a word that is tough to capture in English. It is devotion and commitment. It is loyal, unconditional, undeserved favor. It is unfailing love.

The word shows that God’s approach to love is different from ours. We “love” things that deserve to be loved – things that have traits or values that make them worthy of affection. We love things that are delicious or beautiful or useful. We love people who are kind or funny or attractive. But God doesn’t love us because of something inherently valuable in us. He loves us because of something in him. He loves us with a love that couldn’t be earned, a love that is so vast that it reaches to the heavens.

Live the Word

Praise God for his love. Ask him to help you love others today with a love like his, a love that does not come and go according to how much the other person deserves it.
