Listen to the Word

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth…    (John 14:16-17)

This week, we will dive into some verses that describe some ways the Holy Spirit works in our lives. Jesus called the Holy Spirit the “Counselor.” The Greek word is paraclete, and it means one who stands alongside. It can be translated as advocate, helper, comforter, or encourager.

Interestingly, Jesus calls the Spirit “another Counselor.” Who is the first counselor? It is Jesus himself. The Spirit was sent to keep doing the same things Jesus did while he walked among us in the flesh. Imagine having Jesus standing beside you all day, ready to help with your decisions, quick with a needed word of warning or encouragement. That is what you have with the Holy Spirit. He is your ever-present Counselor.

Live the Word

Each time you face a challenge today, remember that God’s Spirit is alongside you, and ask him to help.
