Listen to the Word

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. (Micah 7:18)

Perhaps the most surprising characteristic of God is his mercy. We would expect God to be holy and powerful and wise and impressive in lots of other ways. But merciful? You wouldn’t guess that a flawless God would extend grace to flawed folks like us. You wouldn’t imagine that a God who has never made a mistake would be patient with the loads of mistakes that we make. Yet Micah tells us that God delights to show mercy. It makes him smile to give you blessings you don’t deserve, to forgive your flaws, and to give you second chances.

We will spend the week reflecting on the mercy of God. Be ready to be captured by his amazing grace!

Live the Word

Ask God to astonish you this week with the depth of his mercy. Pray that he will strip away any illusion that you may have that he loves you because of how good you are, or that he doesn’t love you because of how bad you are.
