Listen to the Word

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”  (Isaiah 6:8)

A final ingredient of true worship is surrender. After saying “I’m amazed,” “I’m sorry,” and “I’m listening,” the worshipper should say “I’m yours.” During his worship encounter, Isaiah enlisted for duty, making himself wholly available to God. He then spent the rest of his life fulfilling the commitment he made that day in the temple.

Worship is not worship if it does not end in obedience. You cannot encounter God and then just go on your merry way. Worship changes you - you don’t come out of a meeting with the Holy One unscathed. God is happy to hear your songs and receive your offering, but what he wants more than anything is you. The definitive act of worship is to give yourself to him.

Live the Word

Isaiah prayed, “Here am I. Send me!” Make that a breath prayer today, repeating it frequently throughout the day.
