Listen to the Word
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Walking in darkness is a hazardous exercise. You can easily wind up in the wrong place, because you need light to help you find your desired destination. You can easily wind up flat on your face, because you need light to help you see dangerous obstacles in your path.
Jesus makes the bold claim that he is the light of the world. If you want to quit stumbling around in the dark, you need to come to him. And notice what he says you need to do in order to have the light you need: follow him! Go where he leads! He is light. If you are near him, consistently following him, you will always be able to see. If you wander away from the path on which he is guiding you, you are wandering away from your light source, and you are likely to get lost or get hurt or worse. Stick close to the light. Keep following Jesus, the light of the world.
Live the Word
