Listen to the Word
A father to the fatherless… is God in his holy dwelling. (Psalm 68:5)

How can we have any idea who God really is and what he is like? How can our tiny 3-pound brains wrap themselves around the infinite God who made them? Thankfully, the Bible assists us by using some terms we can understand to describe the God who is beyond description.

One of the most remarkable descriptions of God in the Bible is that he is your Father. God chooses to reveal himself to us in terms of an intimate relationship. He is not some distant deity who couldn’t pick you out of a police lineup. He cares for you even more than your parents did on their very best day. Jesus called God “Abba,” which could basically be translated as “Daddy.” It’s the name that would be used by a first century little boy who was young enough to think his dad was the bravest, strongest, smartest, coolest person in the world. God is your loving Father, and you are his treasured child.

Live the Word
Pray to God, your Father. Thank him for revealing himself to you through the words of the Bible. Ask him to help you get to know him better this week.
