Listen to the Word

Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!  (Romans 7:25a)

“Lord” is a big name to give to someone. It was used in a wide range of contexts in first century times. It could simply be a term of respect used when speaking to someone in authority, similar to the way we would use the word “sir” today. You might refer to your teacher or your boss as “Lord.” Often, the word was used to refer to God the Father, the ultimate authority figure.

“Jesus is Lord” has always been the central confession of faith for Christians. By that confession, we affirm that we submit to the authority of Jesus. He is our teacher and our boss. He is the one we trust, the one we obey. He is the ultimate leader, and we will follow him.

Live the Word

As you go through the day, seek to submit to the authority of Jesus your Lord in every big and small matter before you.
