Listen to the Word

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”   (Psalm 46:10)

“Be still.” “Know that I am God.” These seem to be two totally separate commands. But God knows that they are connected. He realizes that the ability to know that he is God flows from the willingness to be still. When we live our lives at warp speed, always frantically going and doing, we tend to forget that God is God. When we are constantly busy, we begin to think that we are indispensable and that the task of running the universe has fallen to us. We need to take a breath, take a break, and realize that the world keeps right on spinning without our anxious activity. We need to slow down and let God remind us that he is the one on the throne.

Live the Word

Stop what you are doing for a moment. Take a deep breath. Look for three things around you, or things that have happened so far today, that give evidence that God is God. Thank him for those things.
