Listen to the Word

Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  (Ephesians 4:13)

God wants us to become spiritually mature. But how do we know when we get there? What is spiritual maturity? What does the spiritually mature person look like? Our Scripture gives us this equation: spiritually mature = like Jesus. Mature is defined as “attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” – measuring up to the full stature of Christ.

The goal is Christlikeness – growing up to be as big as Jesus. That’s a big goal! Our maturity is not measured by our church attendance record or the number of Old Testament kings we can name, but by the degree to which we resemble Jesus. God’s desire for us is that we will live as Jesus would live if he were in our place. We will notice the things he would notice if he looked through our eyes. We will do our jobs the way he would do them and treat our neighbors the way he would treat them. We will think what he would think and feel what he would feel. God is working to make us like Jesus!
