Listen to the Word

But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25)

Many of us will spend time this week celebrating the gift of freedom. As we give thanks for the political freedom provided by our nation, we should treasure even more the true freedom given by God. This week’s Scripture asserts that God’s Word, his “perfect law,” is the source of real freedom. 

Just as a fish is only free when it is in the water, we are only free when we are walking the path for which our Creator designed us. We experience true freedom when we go God’s way - when we look to his Word for guidance and do what it says. The Bible is our ultimate Declaration of Independence.

Tell God thanks for the gift of freedom, and for the gift of his Word.
