Listen to the Word
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. (James 3:9-10)

One of the hardest parts of the body to surrender fully to God is the mouth. You have probably experienced the inconsistency James describes in today’s Scripture: one minute your lips are worshipping God, and the next minute they are saying something ugly about one of his children. Your mouth is capable of building others up and bringing joy and hope to them. It is also skilled in deceiving and destroying. If you let your mouth run, it causes pain to you and everyone around you. If you give it to God, it becomes a powerful tool in his hands.

Offer your mouth to God. Start with the next hour - ask God to help you to speak only words that encourage others and honor him.
