Listen to the Word

Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two wings they covered their feet, and with two wings they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.  (Isaiah 6:2-4)

One ingredient of true worship is recognizing God’s majesty. The first words of the worshipper are, “I’m amazed.” When Isaiah saw the Lord in the temple, he was shocked into a state of awe. He realized he was in the presence of a God so glorious that even magnificent heavenly beings with earthquake-inducing voices had to hide their faces from him. When we worship God, we should get a glimpse of how powerful he is, or how pure he is, or how present he is, and we should be astonished!

Our word “worship” comes from the old English word “worth-ship.” When we worship God, we tell him how much he is worth. We allow ourselves to be amazed by him.

Live the Word

Make a list of five amazing things about God. Take a moment to praise him for those things.
