Listen to the Word

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26)

God wants to give you a new heart. He wants to perform a spiritual transplant procedure on you. He sees your tendency toward stubbornness, your lapses of compassion, and your resistance to his touch. He diagnoses the problem: you have a hard heart - a heart of stone. He knows you can’t fix the problem yourself, so he offers to take care of it for you. He wants to give you a new heart - a heart that is soft enough to respond to his touch and to feel the pain of others. He wants to give you a heart that beats with his.

What evidence of a hard heart do you see in yourself? Confess that to God, and acknowledge that you are powerless to change it on your own. Ask him to give you a heart like his.
