Listen to the Word

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.   (Galatians 5:1)

Today’s Scripture instructs us to be vigilant in our liberty. Jesus has set us free. And he set us free for freedom (duh!). In other words, he didn’t set us free just so we could go get ourselves stuck and enslaved all over again. There are always things trying to catch us – we can get stuck in a pattern of sinful behavior, or enslaved by a legalistic approach to our relationship with God. We must stand strong in our freedom and avoid every kind of bondage. Jesus has let us out of our cell – it would be silly for us to walk right into another one. We must stand firm, and stay free.

Live the Word

Ask Jesus to help you be aware of anything that threatens to enslave you today, and ask him for the strength you need in order to stay free.
