Listen to the Word
Love is not self-seeking. (1 Corinthians 13:5)

Today’s verse points to a third promise you can make to the members of your family: “I will put you above me.”

This is a tough one. Here, Christ’s kind of love has a head-on collision with the way we normally operate. In the typical family, each person is looking out for number one. If you are typical, you are obsessed with your needs, your wants, your preferences. But love insists that you look out for others, not for yourself. Imagine if the people in your family never had to worry about their own needs because they knew that someone else in the family could always be counted on to put them first. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Why not let that selfless approach start with you?

Live the Word
Practice a simple but profound act of putting your family members before you: willingly surrender the TV remote to them for the rest of the week.
