Listen to the Word
A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (Mark 4:37-41)
When the storms of life overwhelm us, it helps to know who Jesus is. It helps to know that he is human – that he has been there, and he understands. And it helps to know that he is God – he is capable of wiping out the waves with a word. If you stand up and yell at your storm to stop, you probably won’t have much success. But Jesus can handle it. He doesn’t always make the storms go away – sometimes he rescues us through the storm, not from the storm. But we can always trust him. He is stronger than our storms. Our crisis is no match for Christ.
Live the Word
Ask Jesus to remind you today that he is bigger than any storm you will face.
