Listen to the Word

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”  (Revelation 22:13)

Jesus describes himself in terms that make it clear that he is inescapable and all-encompassing. He is Alpha and Omega, which is a Greek way to say he is A to Z. He is the first and the last - and everything in between. He is everything!

He also says he is the beginning and the end. The word he uses for beginning indicates more than just the first in a series - it indicates the source of the series. It is the Greek word arche, from which we get our words “archetype” and “architecture.” Everything has its source in Jesus. And the word he uses for end means more than just the last in a series. He says he is the telos, which means the destiny of a series. For example, the telos of an acorn is an oak tree. The telos of creation is Christ.

He is A to Z. He is first and last. He is the ultimate source and the final goal. He is Jesus.

Live the Word

Tell Jesus thanks for the fact that he was there the moment you woke up, the first moment of your day. And he will be there for today’s last moment as you drift off to sleep. And he will be there every moment in between.
