Listen to the Word
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:5-7)
Every Christmas season I find myself blown away by the humility of God. This week’s Scripture reminds us of what we celebrate at Christmas: God the Son traded his heavenly glory for human flesh. He exchanged his exalted throne for a manger. Christ, who is fully God, became a human being like us. Christ, who is EVERYTHING, “made himself nothing.” Christ, who is the ultimate King, took “the very nature of a servant.” It is so unexpected - so humble. The Maker of the universe moved into the neighborhood. Divinity was wrapped in a diaper.
Live the Word
Ask God to open your eyes and astound you with the depth of his humility.
