Listen to the Word

"Therefore put on the full armor of God... stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place."  (Ephesians 6:13-14)

Last week we began to explore the reality that we are in a spiritual battle. This week's Scripture uses the various pieces of armor worn by an ancient soldier to illuminate the equipment God provides that enables us to be victorious in the fight.

We must put on the belt of truth. An ancient soldier's belt held all of the other equipment in place. And if we are at war with Satan, the great deceiver who is a liar and the father of lies, we need a clear understanding of God's truth as a primary part of our defense. We also need to be people of truth, because spiritual battles are not won by strong muscles, but by strong character.

We must put on the breastplate of righteousness. A soldier's breastplate was the heart protector, covering all of the vital organs. Righteousness protects us, too - not a righteousness we manufacture, but the righteousness of Christ given to us.

Live the Word

Read all of Ephesians 6:10-18. Ask God to help you put on the spiritual armor he provides for you.
