Listen to the Word

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. (Isaiah 6:1)

What is supposed to happen when we worship God? This week we will ponder that question as we examine a worship experience recorded in Isaiah 6.

It is clear that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to worship in the Bible. God is remarkably imaginative, and no two encounters with him are just alike. Moses met him through a burning bush. Balaam heard his voice from the mouth of a donkey. At Pentecost, God showed up in wind and fire. Isaiah encountered him through an eye-popping vision in the temple. God obviously loves variety in worship, but there are some consistent ingredients we see in the varied worship experiences in Scripture. We will spend the rest of the week allowing Isaiah to show us some of those ingredients.

Live the Word

Tell God you want him to shape you as a worshipper, and ask him to help you encounter him this week.
