Listen to the Word

"Therefore put on the full armor of God... with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."  (Ephesians 6:13,15)

Baseball players would never take the field without proper tools. They couldn't win without a bat and a glove. Likewise, we can't win the spiritual battle going on around us without the necessary equipment. Part of our equipment are the shoes of the gospel of peace - we could call them "good news shoes."

An ancient soldier's shoes had hobnails that functioned like a major leaguer's cleats. You wouldn't fight in slick-soled loafers because you would get pushed around. The right shoes would help you hold your ground. What helps the Christian stand firm is the good news of the Gospel - the news that God loves us, and that he sent Jesus to live and die and rise again for us. That gospel of peace empowers us to stand our ground.
