Listen to the Word

And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”    (Exodus 20:1-3)

God doesn’t want to be one compartment of your life. He wants to be the ultimate reality, the top priority. You wouldn’t be reading this devotion if God were not important to you. But he wants to be more than important. He wants to be the focus of your existence.

The Ten Commandments do not begin with God saying, “I am the LORD your God, and I want to be a part of your life.” He says he is the LORD your God, and he wants to be your only God. He wants you to worship him alone.

Live the Word

Tell God you don’t want to settle for a casual connection to him – you want him to be the thing that matters most, the only object of your worship.
