Listen to the Word

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? (Mark 8:36)

Jesus’ question in today’s Scripture makes us ponder what it is that has real value. 

You could gain so much success that you become the envy of the whole Chamber of Commerce. You could gain so much wealth that the bank has to add a wing just to hold all your cash. You could gain so much fame that you have paparazzi camping on your lawn. But what if you lose your soul in the process? What if you gain all these things at the expense of the one thing that matters, the one thing that connects you to God, the one thing you can take with you when you die? What good will it be?

Ask God to help you spend your energy today investing in things that will last: your soul, and the souls of those who surround you.
