Listen to the Word

"Therefore put on the full armor of God... take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."  (Ephesians 6:13,16)

A Roman soldier's shield was a large oval, bigger than Captain America's shield. The soldier could crouch behind it and be completely covered. The shield could deflect flaming arrows, and was often covered in cloth and skins and soaked in water so it could extinguish the flame on an arrow.

Our shield is faith - it is confidence in Christ. We trust him, and we believe he knows what he is doing. We put our lives in his hands. When Satan starts shooting those flaming arrows - arrows of deceit and discouragement and accusation and temptation - they hit the shield of faith, and they don't do us any harm.

Live the Word

As you begin each new experience today, ask God to help you trust him in that moment.
