Listen to the Word

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  (Philippians 2:5-7)

Philippians 2 and the nativity scene on your mantle proclaim the same message: God is the most humble being in the universe. I know that statement sounds bizarre. After all, God is the biggest deal there is. He is the majestic Maker of everything. He is infinitely strong and holy and wise. If you add up all that is impressive everywhere else in the universe, it doesn’t amount to a fraction of a percent of the awesomeness found in him. He has every right to have a big head. But he demonstrates the most profound humility. The great God above everything made himself nothing! He who fills the highest heaven stooped all the way down to a manger in Bethlehem.

Confess your own lack of humility to God. Ask him to make you more humble, like him.
