Listen to the Word

But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25)

The first thing James tells us to do with the Bible is to “look intently” into it. That is also the second thing James tells us to do. We are to continue to do this. Digging deep into Scripture is not a one-time event or an occasional diversion. It is not a Sunday-only experience. It is to be a constant habit. God’s Word will set us free when studying it is our consistent practice.  When attentive, expectant encounters with the Bible become increasingly regular for us, we experience more and more of the freedom God gives through his Word.

Choose a regular time and place for studying the Bible, and make a commitment to God that you will do it consistently for the next month.
