Listen to the Word

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and took note that these men had been with Jesus.”  (Acts 4:13)

The religious leaders who were astonished by Peter and John accurately identified the source of the remarkable courage those apostles demonstrated. It didn’t come from any elite training they received – they were unschooled. It didn’t come from any superhero traits hard-wired into them – they were ordinary. The only possible explanation for their extraordinary boldness was that “these men had been with Jesus.”

When we spend time with Jesus, his courage rubs off on us. So does his compassion, and his selflessness, and his joy, and his peace, and his patience. May we so reflect the character of Jesus that everyone who sees us can tell that we have been with him!

Live the Word

Could you use some courage today? Spend some time with Jesus, and ask him to share some of his courage with you.
