Listen to the Word
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. (James 1:19)

If we received grades for communication, most folks would get an A+ in talking and a D- in listening. Our mouths tend to run by themselves, while much effort is required to engage our ears. We speak any time and all the time, but we listen only on rare occasions.

James says we’ve got it backwards. We should be quick to listen and slow to speak. We should listen always and speak rarely. Perhaps it is no accident that God gave us two ears and only one mouth. Maybe he wants us to listen twice as much as we talk.

Live the Word
Be a listener today. Pay extra attention to what the people around you are saying. Listen more than you speak.
