Listen to the Word

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  (Philippians 2:9-11)

As we endure another heated American election season, let’s spend the week seeking Biblical help in putting our politics in perspective. Today’s verses give us a foundational reassurance: no matter who is elected President of the United States, Jesus will still be Lord of the universe.

Perhaps you’ve been sucked into all the election hype, and you are now convinced that the future of the world and the fate of Christianity hinge on the result of November’s vote. You figure that if your team doesn’t win, we are doomed. If that’s you, I have to ask: is your view of God really that small? Do you really think God is pacing around heaven right now, saying, “Oh, Me, if this election doesn’t work out, what am I going to do?”

We are voting for our next President. But the position of real authority is not up for election – not this year, not ever. No matter who is in the oval office, Jesus is on the throne. No matter who is President, Jesus is King.

Live the Word

Pray for God to help you remember that politics matters, but it is not what matters most. Ask him to help you keep Jesus at the center.
