Listen to the Word

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.  (1 John 4:14)

This week we will continue to examine a number of the names of Jesus found in the Bible. The very name “Jesus” literally means “salvation” or “the LORD saves.”

Today’s verse tells us that Jesus was sent to be the Savior of the world. That tells us two important things: we need saving, and Jesus is the one who can do it. Jesus is the hero sent to rescue us. We are enslaved by sin and shame, and he came to liberate us. We are threatened by dragons on all sides, and he came to vanquish them. We are imprisoned, awaiting punishment for our crimes, and he came to set us free. Jesus is our Savior!

Live the Word

Spend a moment pondering where you would be today apart from the heroic work of Jesus. Thank him for saving you from that outcome.
